DeAnna Harris is a certified Community Health Worker covering a rural area based at WellAWARE’s office in the Yancey Community Center in Esmont, Va. A newcomer to UVA Health, DeAnna joined the Population Health Department in 2024. DeAnna was especially drawn to Community Health Work because of her lifelong passion for helping others and meeting people where they are. She has been working in the healthcare field for 15 years, and holds certifications as a Phlebotomist, Med Tech, and Patient Care Aide. She has previously worked in a number of different healthcare settings, such as Behavioral Health programs, Assisted Living facilities, and Home Health Care programs.
DeAnna loves her work with WellAWARE, especially the opportunity to learn something new every day, whether from her patients or from work-related training sessions. DeAnna is always eager to expand her knowledge and share her expertise with others. She excels at providing patient education, and offers real-world, hands-on activities to assist in educating her clients about ways to achieve a healthier lifestyle. She appreciates building therapeutic and trusting relationships with clients through home visiting. As a relatable, neighborhood-based Community Health Worker, DeAnna serves as a bridge to the health system for individuals who are facing barriers to optimal healthcare.
Outside of work, DeAnna enjoys tending to her vegetable and flower gardens and spending quality time with her family.
