Dr. Malinda L. Whitlow, DNP, FNP-BC, is a triple `Hoo (having earned a DNP, MSN and BSN at UVA, and a current member of the Raven Society and of the Beta Kappa chapter of Sigma nursing honor society.
Director of the School of Nursing's RN to BSN program, before her UVA appointment Whitlow taught at George Washington University in Washington, DC, and directed its Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program.
Whitlow's teaching and mentoring roles are expansive: she's taught both medical-surgical and community health courses, labs and clinicals, as well as pharmacology and health assessment classes, supervised undergraduates’ clinical care at inpatient, long-term care and community sites, and mentored students completing capstone projects, and led clinical trips to global sites in both Haiti and Ecuador.
A family nurse practitioner at UVA Health, Whitlow – a native of Texas – earned GW Nursing’s Excellence in Undergraduate Mentoring and Advising award in 2017, its Excellence in Student Life Award in 2015, and was a Sigma Nursing Faculty Leadership Academy Scholar from 2016-17. An alumna of the Sigma Faculty Nurse Leadership Academy (2016-2017), a Virginia Nurses Association “40 Under 40” awardee (2015), a University of Virginia Health System Magnet Champion (2004-2011), and winner of University of Virginia's Preceptor of the Year (2005).
