Martha grew up in Texas and lived in Central Pennsylvania for many years before moving to Charlottesville, Virginia. She studied Sociology at Texas A&M University and began her professional career in public policy before taking a break to raise two children. Martha returned to work as a certified personal trainer at a retirement community and then returned to school to earn a Master’s of Social Work degree from Louisiana State University.

Upon earning her MSW, she worked as a licensed master of social worker (LMSW) at a skilled nursing facility in Pennsylvania, coordinating care plans and discharges and connecting patients’ needs to community resources. Seeking to expand her social work skills, Martha accepted a position as a clinical social worker at the UVA Orthopedic Clinic in June of 2022, supporting clinic staff by addressing patients’ barriers to care.

In September of 2024, Martha transferred to the UVA Population Health Department as a case manager. She is committed to supporting and advocating for patients, meeting them where they are, and helping bridge gaps in care.

Martha enjoys being outside kayaking, biking, running, walking her dog, and working on projects; and she looks forward to getting more involved with the Charlottesville community.
